The Big Build

Here at Penrith Mountain Rescue we are lunching our BIGGEST campagin ever!

'The Big Build' project build a new base for the team. The new base will provide a modern, fit-for-purpose facility for the team to operate from. The new base will be located in the heart of Penrith, providing easy access to all corners of our patch and neighbouring teams, allowing the team to respond quickly to all incidents.

Why build a new base?

As the team has grown, and so have visitors to the area, the current base has become too small and unfit for purpose.

Space

new-base

As the team grows due to higher volumes of callouts, space is increasing limited. When we have to dry kit, there is no room left for meetings or indoor training.

Eviction

base

As the base is now situated in a residential area, we run the risk of being asked to leave

Vehicles

vehicles

We have just aquired our 4th vehicle which has to be stored outside of the building creating safety concerns.

What are the plans?

The new base will be a two-storey building on the Gill Willy Industrial Estate in Penrith. Both the Penrith Mountain Rescue team and the Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit will occupy the space with 5 vehicle bays for Penrith MRT and 2 for COMRU. The ground floor will house the team’s vehicles and equipment, as well as a training room and storage space. The first floor will provide office space, a kitchen, and a rest area for team members. The new base will also have a secure yard for storing equipment and vehicles.
