The team comprises of around 40 team members who live in and around Penrith. As well as being on call in all weathers, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, there is a significant amount of on-going training in advanced first aid, mountain and water rescue.
In recent times, there have been around 60 callouts each year involving all members of the team and all types of rescues. some spanning multiple days. This can only be achieved through the dedication and hard work of all our volunteers and the generosity of the public.

Penrith Mountain Rescue Team operates with approximately 40 on-call Team members and needs a steady influx of new members. We have one recruitment intake per year where recruits join as inductees. The inductees are assessed on the hill in various conditions and we then invite some to join the Team as probationary members. Probation lasts for a period of 1 year during which you will be involved in all aspects of Team activities. Applications for the 2025 intake are now closed.
